In an exciting development for students of Northville High School, Schoolcraft College has announced a groundbreaking initiative that will revolutionize the way students approach higher education. Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, NHS students will have the opportunity to dual enroll at Schoolcraft College at absolutely no cost to the school district, thanks to a generous grant received by the college.
This initiative comes as Schoolcraft College recently secured significant grant funding, allowing for an expanded range of courses and greater accessibility to higher education for high school students. Unlike previous programs, students will now be able to enroll in courses during the Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter semesters without any restrictions on the number of courses they can take.
Dual enrollment is a fantastic opportunity available to students in Michigan, including those at Northville High School, allowing high schoolers to take college courses and earn both high school and college credits simultaneously. This program is designed to give students a head start on their college education, enabling them to explore a wide range of academic interests, challenge themselves beyond the traditional high school curriculum, and potentially save on future college tuition costs. At Northville High School, we are committed to providing our students with every opportunity to succeed, and dual enrollment is a prime example of this commitment. Families interested in taking advantage of dual enrollment for their students should begin by speaking with a high school counselor. The counselor will guide you through the process, from selecting appropriate courses at participating colleges, such as Schoolcraft College, to understanding how these credits apply towards high school graduation and college degree requirements. This is an incredible opportunity to accelerate your student's educational journey and prepare them for the challenges of higher education.
Dr. Glenn Cerny, president of Schoolcraft College, expressed enthusiasm for the program, stating, “This program is a win-win for everyone involved. It allows our local high school students the ease of dual enrolling and provides our school districts peace of mind in regard to funding.”
Aaron Baughman, assistant superintendent of Instructional Services at Northville Public Schools, emphasized the benefits of dual enrollment, stating, "Dual enrollment is a great opportunity for high school students to begin their college experience, while in high school, and complete their high school requirements while they do it. And most importantly, they do this at no cost to the families."
NHS students interested in taking advantage of this unprecedented opportunity can begin the enrollment process by speaking with their high school counselor. To make an appointment, visit the Northville High School Counseling web page.
