Bond 2023 Construction Update: Amerman & Meads Mill Progress

Over at Meads Mill Middle School, Assistant Principal Will Lambdin gives us a tour of the construction zone where work has begun on the highly anticipated 11,000-square-foot robotics addition. Hey, it's Devon Caudill, principal at Amerman, and I'm here with another construction update and if you can see behind me we have done a ton of work and by we not me at all but our construction crew has done a ton of work and actually they are done with the brick work. So you can see the outer walls of our new multi-purpose room slash kitchen, music room, all those different pieces. You can see the outline of that curved wall in the front that is going to be all windows. It's going to be absolutely amazing and the next thing to take place is steel structure, so exciting how quickly they have been moving. So I am out at the front of the building and as you can see we've got stuff going on over here too. So over spring break they started on the office expansion. So the front office if you've ever been inside Amerman is super super tiny and so we are so grateful that we are getting a slightly larger space on the inside and so to make that happen they are starting, they started over spring break. As you can see the fence went up, they cleared all the landscaping out of the way. Additionally, they did a bunch of work on all the soffits and actually the did soffit work not only here in the front of the building but they did it throughout the entire courtyard as well because that is what's happening over the summer, the courtyard work. So tons and tons of work here and if you want to imagine kind of what it's going to look like so you can imagine basically a big rectangle just kind of jutting out from the front of the school within that fenced area is going to be part of that office expansion and hopefully, next school year where I am standing I will be under a covered area. So we no longer have to stand outside with our hoods up. So I am inside the front office and as you can see it is a super tight space and if you're wondering wow, that wall over there must have really really made it small in here, it really didn't, it was maybe not even a foot. So it's a tiny little space in here. But all of here used to be windows and now this temporary wall actually goes all the way through the office and then through another office back there. So when they tear down the entire front of the building we're protected from the outside. So pardon our mess during this time, it's not going to look great at all times but those of you that have lived inside construction, that happens sometimes. However, one of the exciting things that is going to happen when we are done is we are actually getting a student sensory space what is something a number of the schools already have but due to our small space we do not have one, but through the bond and the expansion of our front office we are going to get our very own Zen Den here inside of our office for those times when we just need a minute to calm and collect ourselves. Hi, Will Lambdin here for Meads Mill, just kind of updating for our bond 25-26 project. So this is the start our project. We have some siding coming down, we have some windows covered, this is going to be our 11,000 square foot robotics addition. So you can imagine that hallway where the plywood is on that side connecting all the way over here to our E-pod on the east side. So it's going to be a big project but we're very excited. At the recent Board of Education meeting, Northville Public Schools provided an update on the ongoing Bond 2023 projects, highlighting progress across multiple school sites and upcoming improvements scheduled for the near future.

Amerman Elementary:
Construction continues at Amerman Elementary, with significant developments both at the front and back of the building. Over Spring Break, work commenced on the front office addition, with temporary partitions set up to separate the construction from the existing office. Outside, temporary fencing has been installed to secure the construction zone. The front walkway has been slightly impacted by construction, but alternative routes have been established to ensure smooth entry into the building.

In the back of the building, work progresses on the new multipurpose room, kitchen, and art room. Additionally, Amerman’s gymnasium lighting has been upgraded to energy-efficient LED fixtures, contributing to long-term sustainability and cost savings.

Meads Mill Middle School:
Meads Mill has officially begun its construction journey, with site preparations for an 11,000-square-foot robotics addition taking place over Spring Break. This project is expected to span multiple years.

To accommodate the construction, the technology cabinet in the newer section of the school was relocated, with the IT team ensuring a seamless transition to maintain stable Wi-Fi connections. Temporary walls will also be installed to separate construction areas from students and staff, prioritizing safety and minimizing disruption.

Northville High School Mechanical Project:
Several key mechanical upgrades have been completed at Northville High School. Over Spring Break, drinking fountains were replaced, and preparation work began for the installation of additional air handling units in the high school’s new wing.

On the exterior, the baseball and softball field walkways are now substantially complete, with decorative fencing expected to follow, pending favorable weather conditions.

District-Wide Technology Upgrades:
Looking ahead, Northville Public Schools is preparing for several major technology upgrades across the district:

Fiber Optic Network Replacement: This summer marks the beginning of a year-long project to replace the district’s fiber optic wide-area network, enhancing connectivity and technological infrastructure.
Audio & Visual Upgrades: The IT Department is in the process of putting a district-wide audio and visual upgrade project out for bid. This initiative, set to begin this summer and continue into Fall 2025, aims to modernize audio systems within school cafeterias and gymnasiums.

Northville High School STEAM Addition:
Design meetings for Northville High School’s upcoming STEAM addition are occurring weekly. The design team is focused on creating a space that seamlessly integrates with the existing building aesthetics while staying within budget. Rendered images of the project are expected to be shared in the coming weeks.

Moraine Elementary:
Moraine’s renovation and addition project will soon enter the design development phase. Once plans are finalized, the construction team will begin estimating costs and logistics to move the project forward efficiently.

Silver Springs & Winchester Elementary Schools:
Pre-planning is currently underway for future projects at Silver Springs and Winchester, with work scheduled to begin in 2027.

Pricing Considerations & Economic Factors

The district is closely monitoring the impact of new tariffs on certain overseas goods, particularly motors and electronic chips, as these could affect pricing and procurement strategies for various projects.
