Classroom Close-Up: Ms. Padgen, Winchester Classroom Close-Up: Ms. Padgen, Winchester For this Classroom Close-Up we visited Ms. Padgen's 2nd grade class at Winchester Elementary. The students were doing a math lesson by counting and sorting beans. Show Transcript Hi! I'm Mrs. Padgen, I teach second grade at Winchester, come on in to see a math lesson. Okay guys, yes. So I have here, yeah, these are beans. So I was having a little discussion with the other second grade teachers and we all needed beans for our lesson and we were thinking that we could split the beans up evenly into three groups for each class. And I was wondering how many beans I had to split up between the other classes. So I was hoping that today you could help me figure out how many beans are in this bin. Let me just walk around so you can get a good look. We're learning to guess and I think it's really and I think it's really fun that we're learning that. And we're learning it by, we are predicting, there's the word, predicting how many numbers of beans there all and it's by doing a number line and we put numbers in like that go after and yeah. Who estimated a number between 101 and 200? Come on up. Place our numbers on. I like Hands-On stuff because you can get your own opinions and it's a little different from just doing a paper then actually really seeing the beans and getting to touch them and you know. Is that helpful? Yeah, it's really helpful for us to actually know what it actually is in real life so we can predict a little bit better.
