Class of 2018

WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR? 

  1. Consider your college selections while completing your seminar module.
  2. Determine if any colleges have early deadlines or need teacher letters of recommendation.
  3. If a teacher recommendation is needed, ask a teacher, in person, if he or she would be willing to write a positive letter of recommendation.  Complete counselor and teacher brag sheets if letters of recommendation are required.
  4. If needed, stop by to see your counselor during lunchtime drop-ins to continue the college search discussion or make a personal appointment to see your counselor.
  5. Consider retaking the SAT in August or October, or retake the ACT in September (if you haven’t registered for the June test dates)
  6. Talk with your parents about this process.
  7. Review all of this information that has been provided:
    a.  NHS Senior Planning Guide 
    b.  Junior College Planning Meeting Presentation
    c.  NHS Counseling Newsletter

WHAT SHOULD I HAVE DONE BY THE END OF LABOR DAY WEEKEND?

  1. Utilize the NHS Senior Planning Guide.
  2.  Register to retake the ACT and/or SAT if necessary.
  3.  Participate in ACT and/or SAT Test Prep if you are planning to retake either standardized test in August, September or October.
  4. Visit college campuses.
  5. Finalize your college application list.
  6. Complete all (or most) application essay prompts.  2017-18 applications should be available August 1st –  August 15th.
  7. The Common Application Essay prompts are available now.
  8. Complete counselor and teacher brag sheets if letters of recommendation are required.
  9. Identify a list of scholarships in which you plan to apply.
